Tang Soo Do has a great history and is the "traditional system" one can master at Tom Bloom Family Martial Arts.
What is Tang Soo Do?
Tang Soo Do means "the art of the knife hand" or "the way of the Chinese hand." It contains characteristics of Chinese internal methods and Japanese striking styles. Tang Soo Do is a modern martial art and its purpose is to develop every aspect of the 'self' in order to produce a mature person who can totally integrate his intellect, emotions, body, and spirit. Tang Soo Do is not a sport, it is a physical, mental and spiritual art,. It is a well-balanced style and offers a wide array of kicks, hand strikes, submission holds and takedowns representative of Judo as well as softer fluid motions indicative of Kung Fu. Tang Soo Do derives its hard style from Soo Bahk Do and its flowing movements from the Northern Chinese systems. Both are easily recognized in the self defense moves that are practiced.
How long will it take me or my child to learn to defend myself?
The Martial Arts is taught on a step-by-step basis. Students learn at a very comfortable pace. Many of the most effective, comprehensive self-defense techniques to defend against a variety of attacks are taught to children and adults at the intermediate levels, and perfected during the advanced stages of training. The basics of these skills are implemented day one.
What kind of self defense will I learn?
One must be prepared to use appropriate force depending upon the situation. An assault can occur from someone you may be familiar with such as "date rape.” It may be an intoxicated party guest, the school bully, or even take place over a heated argument. We teach a large variety of joint locks; choke holds and arm bars in defense of several types of attacks including attacks by multiple assailants. The ability to defend yourself is invaluable if you should ever find yourself in a position to need it.
